Adventures in Goldwork: An ArtTalk - Thurs 17th December at 2pm
Speaker: Hanny Newton
Thurs 17th December 2pm - 3:15pm
Join Hanny for an insightful look at her contemporary take on the centuries old artform of Goldwork embroidery.
This 60 minute ArtTalk will provide an insight into Hanny's journey as a goldwork embroiderer. From discovering her love for embroidery by accident while living in a Steiner community at 23, to achieving her dream of studying at the Royal School of Needlework, and the adventures her love of embroidery has taken her on since.
Hanny has conserved Greek folk embroidery, created ancient Scythian inspired goldwork events at the British Museum, and taught stitching in Australia. Her most recent work is her largest commission to date, which saw her spending three months during lockdown creating something beautiful using a kilogram of bespoke copper thread.
For those that want to learn more, Hanny will be teaching a four-part online series called Adventures in Goldwork in March 2021.
